Like Their Community, The Lions Club of Pueblo West is Growing Up!!!!!!!! Quickly growing in numbers to better serve the community, the Lions Club of Pueblo West will soon become an independently chartered organization. The local Lions Club recently coordinated a large local rummage sale in front of the Pueblo West Hardware Store. During the event several individual vendors and charitable groups including the Lions were able to raise some much needed funds for their charitable public service efforts. Though the KidSight program is a key element in the Lions Club of Pueblo West's community service, they have several other events in which they serve the community and raise funds for their programs. Events such as the 4th of July Pancake Breakfast and the Flags for 1st Graders, allow this group to give back to this fine community they call home. After a couple of years of struggling to build the club and grow toward getting a charter, the Lions Club of Pueblo West has finally arrived. It took two years for Coordinators Lion Jo Bryan and Lion Steve Hargett to get a solid dozen Lion members. At our last Christmas party Lion Chuck Sanderson suggested that sometimes it helps to just set a date to arrive at your goal(20 members to Charter). So, the wisdom was heeded, and four months later the Lions Club of Pueblo West is 28 members strong and climbing. While there are now plenty of Lions to establish a charter, the new goal is to beat the Falcon Lions Club and have 50 members at the Charter Night Celebration on August 11, 2007. The planning committee is working hard to assure a fun evening for all fellow Lions and guests who will attend the event. Live entertainment, silent and live auctions, raffles, good food, and a fast lively pace are all on the agenda. The Lions Club of Pueblo West encourages parents with young children to take advantage of their free vision screenings. The KidSight program is conducted the first Saturday of each month, at the Pueblo West Wal-Mart Vision Center. The screenings are quick and simple, though more effective than a typical eye chart screening. The cooperative KidSight screenings have allowed the Lions to give a valuable vision check for many children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years. More information on the KidSight program, and the Lions, can be obtained by visiting www.myspace.com/KidSight or by calling 240-1839. The Lions Club of Pueblo West is looking forward to expanding their community service efforts as they themselves continue to grow. The Lions Club of Pueblo West is very active in the community. We conduct a KidSight screening each month in cooperation with the local Wal-Mart Vision Center. We also conduct a 4th of July Community Pancake Breakfast. Flags for 1st Graders, Community Rummage Sale, Roadside Cleanup, Eye Glass Collection Points, and Parade of Lights. ALSO CHECK OUT INFORMATION ON OUR KIDSIGHT PROGRAM AT: www.myspace.com/kidsight
